Pic Playback: Kash Doll Brings The Doll House To Washington, DC

Sunday, February 9 saw “the ONLY Doll” of rap make her ascension into the DMV area, as Kash Doll brought “The Last Doll” Tour to the Howard Theatre.

The show officially started at 7:45 PM with emerging R&B artist, Howard University’s own Jay The Don performing a few original songs while the crowd still made its’ way inside from out of the cold.

Detroit was repping really hard on this show as fellow D-Town native Detroit Barbie turned the crowd up with her brand of sexually laden rap that had all the ladies fully in tune what she had to say. During her set, she let us know that she was two weeks post having a double mastectomy but wasn’t going to let that stop her from tapping in on this tour. She certainly let her impact be felt, especially when she brought two fans on stage for her last song for a twerk off.

R&B Shantel May made her introduction to the stage with a stripped down rendition of Mýa’s hit single “Case Of The Ex,” but continued on with her 15 minute set with songs from her debut album “Triggered, But Here,” including her current single “Dangerous.”

Kash Doll finally hit the stage at 9:19 PM, appearing like a life size Barbie packed in her own pink box as she broke out into “Klarity.” A lesson that was taught very early on in her segment was that she not only has bars, but also has zero qualms with calling perps out and show that she can talk big ish. The two songs that proved that were “Poppin” and “Boss Ass Bitch.”

Aside from her bossed up exterior, she appeared to have the personality of your favorite cousin, someone that you can relate to on most levels and will keep you laughing at all the family gatherings. About midway through the concert, a fan threw something on the stage and Kash Doll directly addressed him saying ‘Why did you throw that up here?!” and proceeded to go in on him. With someone of her caliber who is a serial entrepreneur and actress, it was a breath of fresh air to see that she is still personable.

Two female dancers joined her on stage for her breakout hit “Ice Me Out,” that plays as an ode to expecting the finer FINER things in life, but since this WAS The Last Doll Tour, you know it would have only been right for her to drop some songs from her latest album of the same name. When she got into the tracks “Big 1,” “Love Myself,” and fan favorite “Kash Kommandments“, it was evident to see that her “Bratz” had digested all of the new material because they were spitting word for word along with her.

For her last song of the night “For Everybody” she invited a female fan on stage to see if she could finish the song, and whoever the lucky participant was must have been waiting for this moment because she straight bodied the lyrics, impressing Kash Doll herself.

If you’re a supporter of hip-hop music and femcees who have more to give than the subpar mumble rap, then my suggestion would be to go see this tour while she’s still out on the road.
