Pic Playback: Switchfoot’s “The Beautiful Letdown” 20th Anniversary Tour

It’s been twenty years since Switchfoot had released their biggest album to date, “The Beautiful Letdown” and of course it’s most appropriate that they celebrate the occasion with an anniversary tour!

Rolling in to the Warner Theatre in Washington, DC, it’s been a few years since the band had played the market, and fans couldn’t have been more delighted at the initial announcement of a series of concerts. What’s even more exciting is that each night Switchfoot would play the album in its entirety.

To start the night out, there was a very special guest by the name of Alana Springsteen that would be used to open up the crowd. As a relative newcomer to the music scene, this rising country music star broadened her reach as she was playing to a rock crowd. Although she is being billed as a country act, there was certainly more of a rock type essence that could be felt from her.

Performing a few new songs from her upcoming album “TWENTY SOMETHING” as well as “You Don’t Deserve A Country Song” and “Hypocrite“, we’re she that she gained some new fans in the process.

After a brief intermission to change sets, we watched the words The Beautiful Letdown virtually spray painted on a screen as the band walked out to get into the first song of the night, “Ammunition.” Members Jon Foreman, Tim Foreman, Chad Butler, Jerome Fontamillas all appeared to be in top condition playing the songs with such intensity and meaning, as if it were there first time.

A few of the stand out tracks that received the biggest reactions were “Redemption,” “Meant To Live,” “Dare You To Move,” and “Stars.” Throughout the duration of their set, Jon would tell anecdotes that encapsulated the making of the album, which I thought served as a full circle moment.

This was very much so a concert with the fans in mind, as the band would take special requests from the crowd, one being “Politicians.” To further give the fans what they wanted, they also played “Native Tongue” for the first time on the tour. At some point during the show, Jon even made his way up into the mid balcony section.

After nearly two hours on stage, they would finish up with “Float” and “Where I Belong.” Everyone genuinely enjoyed themselves and the band still has what it takes to keep pushing, so if you get a chance to see this tour, buy a ticket soon as the tour finishes up by the end of the year.
