Chris Breezy Wraps The Chocolate City In His Warm Embrace at a sold out concert

What is Summer without a Chris Brown concert? We’d like to question if it was even Summer at all.

Tuesday night saw the return of the young R&B legend to the performance stage AND the Washington, D.C. area when he brought his latest effort, the “One Of Them Ones” Tour to the Capital One Arena. For anyone that’s been to one of CB’s shows before, you already know that it’s not your standard concert…you’re coming for an event!

This was such a main event, that the lineup included two of his industry friends, (Yung) Bleu and Lil Baby. Not to keep the people waiting, Bleu took to the stage determined to prove a point, which was to give a well rounded show.  Kicking off his set with the CB aided track “Baddest“, he’s showing that his creative output is starting to grow, as his stage show included production elements and female dancers to add to the allure of his show. Digging into his crates of bona fied hits, the Alabama born rapper delivered what his fans had been waiting for, when the beginning beat to “You’re Mines Still” kicked in.

For the next two hours, we were about to be taken on a musical journey like never before. Lil Baby and Chris would alternate between sets, creating the type of balance that even Lady Justice would be jealous of. Rapper Lil Baby is one of the hottest young artists in the hip-hop world today and being able to hold his own in a matchup on a stage with Chris says a lot about his force in the industry. Beginning his first set with the feature rap from Drake’s “Wants And Needs“, it was clear that he was determined to cave into all of his loyal fanbase’s wants and needs. Forging through not only top charting hits, as well as some of the street’s favorite bangers, he gave a little taste of his music repertoire by performing “Baby“, “On Me“, Pushin P“, “My Dawg” and “Drip Too Hard“. Speaking of drip, we’ve got to take a moment out to put little spotlight on his outfit for the night. Not many young fellas could pull off rocking a full money green outfit, that looked like it was made from terry cloth and could not only get away with it, but still be considered swagged out, but Baby did so with ease. He along with his six beautiful background dancers rocked the stage before it was time for the switch off.

As the house lights went back down, you could tell the fever was running at an all-time high for what was about to happen. A collage of virtual Chris Brown’s rained down on the huge LED video wall, unbeknownst to us, masking the real thing. Towering above the stage on a 9-foot platform, there stood Brown in all his splendor, as he yelled the words “I’ve been shot!” followed by an ominous pause, which would lead into one of his newest tracks “Forbidden“. From this moment on, it was a non-stop, high speed train ride full of performing excellence as he danced across the stage for 20 minutes straight, while performing a heaping helper of his songs from the “Breezy” album. “Till the Wheels Fall Off“, “Possessive“, “Psychic“, and “Sleep at Night” all made their debut as live renditions and sounded even better than on wax. One of the biggest receptions was during “Warm Embrace“, when it appeared as more of a sing-along as the audience practically overshadowed Chris’ lyrics.

Lil Baby returned to the stage to dig into a few more string of hits “Sum 2 Prove“, “Yes Indeed“, “Girls Want Girls” and “Freestyle” before Chris ultimately closed us out and took us home. Although his initial set was full of new material, he couldn’t let his Day 1’s leave out empty handed. Formulated in an interesting section built around as a game show, he let the audience pick a choice of some of his biggest legacy tunes ever released, and whichever won, is the one that he performed.

For the first time of the night, the two headliners got to share the same space at the same time during “Addicted” and kept us all on a high throughout the duration of the concert, as it was nothing but straight party vibes for “AYo“, “Loyal” and “Go Crazy“.

Team Breezy is ALWAYS a group of fans that is going to support their boy no matter what, and the way that they showed up and showed OUT at the venue is a constant reminder of the effect that he has had on the industry for over the past 17 years.
