Pic Playback: Sylver Logan Sharp’s Birthday concert at City Winery D.C.

The District’s own musical maven, Sylver Logan Sharp, is a hidden treasure that we all should be able to appreciate. The R&B, Soul, Pop, Dance international recording artist and entrepreneur, has captured the attention of fans around the world, but those in attendance at her Cinco de SYLVER concert at City Winery DC on July 9 already knew what they were in for. As once a lead vocalist of the legendary disco band Chic, Sharp brought all of her years of experience in the industry for a one night show that would have me asking for more.
With the masses wearing some form of white, this grown folks only event was for the mature audience who came to hear some real music. Emerging onto the center stage looking like an angelic being, she gracefully used her vocal prowess to captivate the packed out house. Throughout her performance, she teased us with a few cover songs, as well as material that she’s written and produced all her own. The most notable track was the 2005 dance track “All This Time“.
Backed by a eight piece band, including three background vocalists, that were all personally hand selected, she transitioned into some of CHIC’s top hits “Good Times” and “Le Freak“. Once everyone was up out of their seats, she knew that she had them all locked in, so it was time to take us on home with that good old D.C. feeling of the Go-Go beat. This was the first time I’ve EVER heard Donnie McClurkin’s “Speak To My Heart” rock so hard, but now that I have, I don’t ever want to UNHEAR it!
