Wow, talk about women’s empowerment!
Over the last 10 years, Black Girls Rock! has become known as an award show that honors and promotes Black women in different fields involving music, entertainment, medicine, entrepreneurship and visionary aspects; giving us hope and showing that black women really CAN excel in anything that they put their mind to.
Much like the award show, BLACK GIRLS ROCK! Fest™ is a multi-day immersive live experience that celebrates, empowers, and elevates women and girls of color. Taking place at the Kennedy Center, the second annual BGR! FEST will make its return during International Women’s Day weekend on March 5th-8th and will feature several events and live performances by artists like Ms. Lauryn Hill, Alice Smith, Ill Camille and Victory Boyd. Other highlights include free empowerment speaker series featuring Naturi Naughton, Tarana J. Burke, Mary Pryor, Melissa Butler, late-night ‘secret shows’ entitled ‘BGR!FEST Unplugged’, and a closing party featuring DJ Beverly Bond on the wheels of steel.
As the brain child of Beverly Bond, she’s excited to expand the Black Girls Rock! brand to the nation’s capital, home to one of the most vibrant communities of color in the country.
