Man, it’s rather hard to believe that it’s been 20 years since the mainstream musical explosion of the Neo-Soul era took place, leading the way to the introduction of a young lady from Philly. The year 2000, Jill Scott released her debut album “Who Is Jill Scott? Words And Sounds Vol. 1“, a disc that stayed in constant rotation for many music lovers, myself included, for years after its release, and spawned SEVERAL hits. In an age when many of her then contemporaries have gracefully bowed out of the music industry, Jilly From Philly is still standing strong.
It’s a testament to be able to still release relevant music with a purpose, and Ms. Scott will celebrate this special moment by launching a full on 20th anniversary tour to commemorate the album’s initial release in the year 2020. Set to kick off in Kansas City, MO on Feb. 7, 2020, the tour will weave a soulful path through much of North American, including all of the major markets that originally helped put her on the map, such as Baltimore, Memphis, Dallas, Chicago and New York, Chicago and Dallas. If you notice that your local city has been listed, don’t fret, a second leg of the tour will take place in the summer of 2020.
Most of her hardcore fans know that Jill normally keeps a consistent touring schedule, and typically hits the road every year, so what makes this tour so special? This will be the first time in history that she’s ever performed the album from front to back, as a special gift to her legion of supporters. “I’m going to be true to the album set list. I’ll do every song in the order of the album. My audience should bring their CD covers; some may know the list by heart. I will create musical arrangements for the songs purposed with new energy, but keep the integrity of the original songs they love. Expect theater. Expect incredible musicianship. Expect love.” Scott added.
Tickets for the first leg will hit the general marketplace on Friday, December 6th and can be purchased via her official website. You can find the tour dates down below, and drop a comment in our shout box to let us know which city you’ll be going to.
