Pic Playback: The Alumni Of Hip-Hop Takes Bethesda On A Lesson Of Lyricism

Friday, April 19th class was in session at the Bethesda Blues & Jazz Club, as “The Alumni” schooled some, but took many on a journey through the history books. Comprised of Hip Hop legends Chubb Rock, Dana Dane, Monie Love, Special Ed and Kwame, this collective have joined forces to educate, entertain and reinvigorate the Hip Hop culture.

The Hip-Hop gods were with us and kept the predicted major rains away, as the venue was packed to the brim with fans of feel good tunes and music that, shall we say, consisted of pure substance. Instead of feeling like present day 2019, the vibes were very reminiscent of the Fresh Fest concerts that dominated the 1980’s.

It was a special moment indeed, because there’s not many times in today’s climate where we can see rappers not only do a joint concert, but also do joint sets during these particular shows. The group did not perform as individuals, but as one cohesive unit, no other Hip Hop show can match this one- of-kind experience!

Monie Love performed some of her favorite cuts, “Monie In The Middle” and the Queen Latifah led “Ladies First“, Kwame ripped into his joint that still gets the parking rocking “Only You“, Dana Dane gave us a little bit of “Cinderfella“, Special Ed dusted of “I Got It Made“, and Chubb Rock have everyone doing the whop and cabbage patch to “Treat Em Right“. These were just a few of the hits that they touched upon in the two hour concert.

If anyone loves hip hop music in its’ purest form, and realize that they will be in your city, do yourself a favor and buy a ticket.
