Columbia, MD it’s your time again! If you’re asking yourself why, you must not know that the 27th annual Capital Jazz Fest is set to take place the weekend of June 7 – 9 at Merriweather Post Pavilion.
Each year in early June, tens of thousands of music lovers from throughout the country flock to the suburbs of Washington, D.C. to attend this weekend of hot fun, Cool Jazz and R&B. This multi-day, multi-stage outdoor music festival, attracts music lovers from 44 states and is more than just a concert – It’s An Event!
Per usual around this time, fans start buzzing about who the potential lineup will be, because they need to start making plans. The lineup literally just dropped, so dig into.
Friday night is usually a “preview night” so to speak, where the events include one round of acts, and things get kicked off with the soulful tunes of Ms. Gladys Knight and one of the pioneers of the 90’s music sound, Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds.
Saturday is the first FULL day of concerts, and with the inclusion of two different stages, fans of music will have a choice between the soothing sounds of smooth jazz under the Pavilion Stage, or have the opportunity to kick things up a notch with some R&B legends at the Symphony Woods Stage. On day two, you’ll be sure to find Marsha Ambrosius, Brian McKnight, Regina Bell, India.Arie, Gregory Porter and more putting their talents to use and bringing us great entertainment.
Closing ceremonies will include the Farewell Tour for George Clinton. He’ll be taking one last bow on the Capital Jazz stage as the headliner for the Sunday concert series. Also performing will be R&B mainstays Joe, Raheem DeVaughn, Kem, and Stephanie Mills.
