25 years of magic and the Essence Fest shows NO signs of slowing down!
The official “Party With A Purpose” already had their dates in the books, taking place on the weekend of July 4 – 7, but now fans and festival goers were just sitting around eagerly awaiting the time of year that we wait for every year…the announcement of the lineup.
Fresh off the presses, we see that the “Queens” will once again hold court. The Queen of hip-hop/Soul Mary J. Blige and one of the queens of rap, Missy Elliott have been tasked at holding down the main stage concerts. One other festival mainstay will be given the royal treatment, as Frankie Beverly will have a special tribute performed in his honor.
The 25th anniversary celebrations just won’t stop there, as throughout the weekend, the festival producers will bring special attention Blige’s “My Life” and NAS’ “Illmatic” – both iconic albums marking their silver anniversaries in 2019.
Other headlining acts will be NAS, H.E.R., Jermain Dupri, Pharrell Williams, RBRM, Teddy Riley, Teyana Taylor, Timbaland, Anthony Hamilton, Ledisi and more.
“When the ESSENCE Festival was founded 25 years ago, it marked a pivotal moment of vision and reverence – a critical acknowledgement of and investment in the power of our culture,” said Michelle Ebanks, CEO of ESSENCE Communications, in an official release.
If the main stage acts aren’t enough for you, don’t forget that you have FOUR different superlounges to pick your “flava of the minute” from. Others scheduled to participate are 702, Big Daddy Kane, Biz Markie, Brownstone, El Debarge, Elle Varner, Force MDs, Ginuwine, Jacquees, Mase, Normani, Rakim, Scarface, City Girls and more performers who will be announced later.
We would suggest to get your tickets now, although there are only weekend and VIP packages available. No word has been released on when single day tickets will roll out.
