Friday, December 7th saw the return of one of the DMV’s own, Mr. Kenny Lattimore, when he performed at the renowned Bethesda Blues & Jazz Club.
The smooth sounds of this R&B balladeer is exactly the soundtrack for this type of year, when people start to get in the holiday mode and warm up next to the fireplace with music that will take them to a place of comfort. “For you he will” and for us, he did as he took us on a musical journey that spans the course of over 20 years of timeless tunes.
For a show that lasted roughly over an hour, we had memories that will certainly last a lifetime for any of the concert goers who were in attendance, as the entire experience was a constant #mood. Coming out looking as suave as ever in a black tux with green velour jacket, Mr. Lattimore made it evident why he’s able to book and sell out shows…he delivered straight vocals for his entire performance.
In a time where some legacy acts find themselves “struggling” to find their voice, or perfect pitch, neither of those were a problem as each R&B classic was sung with such ease, you would find yourself wondering if this was “Memorex”. For all of you young folks out there, that’s an old school reference to if it was a studio recording, that’s how clear he sounded. All the heavy lifting wasn’t handled alone though, as he was backed by a full band which included three very talented background vocalists.
We were given songs from his very first album, all the way up to his most recent release “Vulnerable“, with notable tracks including “You’re My Girl“, “Never Too Busy“, “Stay On Your Mind” and his pinnacle hit “For You I Will“. Since this was a stop on his Christmas run, you know that he couldn’t leave us without a few songs from his new holiday classic “A Kenny Lattimore Christmas” as well.
For those of you who couldn’t make it out for whatever, we’re sorry that you missed this show, as this would have been an early Christmas date night gift for your significant other. Please make sure that you catch him the next time that he’s in town, because he’s honestly the gift that keeps on giving.
