The 2018 Capital Jazz Fest Talent Lineup Finally Announced

I just think that Columbia, MD will totally be caught up in a rapture of love during the weekend of June 1 -3rd. If you’re asking yourself why, you must not know that’s the planned weekend for the 26th annual Capital Jazz Fest.

Each year in early June, tens of thousands of music lovers from throughout the country flock to the suburbs of Washington, D.C. to attend this weekend of hot fun, Cool Jazz and R&B. This multi-day, multi-stage outdoor music festival, attracts music lovers from 44 states and is more than just a concert – It’s An Event!

Per usual around this time, fans start buzzing about who the potential lineup will be, because they need to start making plans. Just recently, the organizers dropped the full lineup, and they didn’t disappoint. They took it way back with some of artists who helped define the sound of rhythmic music, and laid the blueprint for a lot of the beats that we hear today.

Friday night is usually a “preview night” so to speak, where the events include one round of acts, and things get kicked off with the soulful tunes of one of the groups that you probably grew up listening to, regardless WHAT age bracket you fall in, Earth, Wind & Fire along with Ledisi.

Saturday is the first FULL day of concerts, and with the inclusion of two different stages, fans of music will have a choice between the soothing sounds of smooth jazz under the Pavilion Stage, or have the opportunity to kick things up a notch with some R&B legends at the Symphony Woods Stage. On day two, you’ll be sure to find Smokey Robinson, Fantasia, Keith Sweat, Diana Krall, Boney James and more putting their talents to use and bringing us great entertainment.

Closing ceremonies will be the show that I’m most excited for. Since announcing her “farewell tour” at a few months ago, the woman with a voice as smooth as silk, Ms. Anita Baker has been dropping dates for her final shows here and there, but left fans in the DMV a little miffed because there was no show in sight for the area, until now. She’ll be taking one last bow on the Capital Jazz stage as the headliner for the Sunday concert series. Also performing will be R&B mainstay Brandy, Tevin Campbell, Joss Stone, and Anthony Hamilton’s background singers, who go by The Hamiltones.
