And JUST like that, the 2018 Essence Festival became even more lit!
This year’s festival already has plans to surmount any of it’s past shows to date, namely due in part to the hit movie “Girls Trip“, which featured 4 female friends enjoying a weekend long romp around New Orleans during the famed Essence Music Festival. After the release of the flick, the buzz started going around every “clique” that every female needed to visit. EMF is usually a big deal due to the caliber of entertainment and the legacy that it has left, but THIS July, it’s going to be a BIG effing deal, and that was even before we knew who was going to perform!
Just moments ago, the black owned brand that we have come to love made a major announcement when they not only named one headline performer, but dropped the bomb which included the whole entire weekend lineup. For the July 5-8th weekend, we will see the return of the reigning EMF Queen Mary J. Blige, as well as the return of the legendary Ms. Janet Jackson, who is hot off the heels of her comeback trek, the “State Of The World Tour“. Janet’s last appearance, which also marked her first, was at the 2010 show, where for the first time in festival history, she oversold the amount of tickets for the night that she performed.

Other headlining acts will be Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, Fantasia, Xscape, Blackstreet, Snoop Dogg, Miguel, The Roots, Guy, Marsha Ambrosius and many more. We would suggest to get your tickets now, although there are only weekend and VIP packages available. No word has been released on when single day tickets will roll out.
Our word of advice to ALL of you, if you have NOT been to the Essence Fest before, take our word of advice and make your way down to NOLA for this one! We hope to be back down in the mix of things to bring you coverage of all the events, as we have done in prior years. While you wait, check out how the “Ladies Night” concert panned out at last years festival.
