The winner of BET’s Best Female Hip-Hop Artist, Remy Ma, made her first Essence Fest appearance at this year’s show.
Upon walking into the ESSENCE Superlounge, I was greeted to a wall of people, which meant that the performance space was already packed to capacity. With this fanfare already in place, there were already high expectations being set, as all eyes were on Remy.
Hitting the stage in a see through black lace body suit and backed by 4 dancers, the femcee got right into her 2004 hit with Fat Joe “Lean Back“. For 45 straight minutes, she rocked the stage and showed you that the queen of the Terror Squad had resumed her rightful place atop her throne.
There was only one gripe in her whole show, and that was the absence of her hot topic diss track “Shether“, which she started to spit, but then stopped. Fans in the crowd were really upset, but she confessed that the EMF organizers didn’t want her to have all that vulgar language on stage and to keep the vibes positive.
